The Food Network has become very popular in recent years, and many of my friends, whether they be college students, bachelors, or just inept in the kitchen, love to watch all the cooking shows, but don't have the time or money to make all the fancy recipes with all the fancy ingredients and appliances that are used in so many of them. This blog is for those friends, and anyone else who wants to be able to wow in the kitchen, or just make simple meals for themselves in a timely and cost-effective way.
One of the best ways to cook at home on a budget, is to make semi-home cooked meals that can be turned in to great leftovers. Most of the recipes in this blog will also have easily substituted ingredients, so you'll always be able to make do with what you have at hand!
Since breakfast is so popularly named "The Most Important Meal of the Day", where better to start?!
Pigs in a Blanket
You will need:
1 can of bisquits (i.e. Pillsbury, but any brand will work)
1 small package cocktail weinies (you can use other types of meat for filling as well, including deli meat)
1 Cookie Sheet (they cook best this way, but if you don't have one, you can use any oven safe dish you have. I have a friend who swears all he needs is a sheet of foil, but that usually creates too many messes for me!)
Preheat the oven as directed on the can of bisquits. Seperate the bisquits and wrap them around individual cocktail weenies, you could also add cheese on top of the meat, making sure they are completely enclosed by the bisquit with out any holes or seams that might split (especially if you added the cheese!) Then place them 1"-1 1/2" apart on a greased cookie sheet (a spray like Pam is the easiest way to grease the sheet, but you can also run a stick of butter over it or put oil on a paper towel and wipe a thin coat onto it). Cook them according to the directions on the bisquit can, until the bottoms are a light golden brown. Pull out and enjoy!
Avg. Cost: $4-7
Servings: 2-4 (I usually eat 2, but my boyfriend eats 'em by the dozen!)
I'll add more recipes as often as I can!
